IDC Reports 6.6% Decline in India’s PC Market in 2023, HP and Lenovo Dominate Market Share
India’s traditional PC market (including desktops, laptops and workstations) shipped 13.9 million units in 2023, down 6.6 percent from a year earlier, with HP as the market leader, a new report released on Tuesday showed.
According to the International Data Corporation (IDC), the desktop category grew by 6.7 percent (year-over-year), laptops and workstations fell by 11.1 percent (year-over-year) and 14 percent (year-over-year). year), respectively.
“Low market sentiment post-pandemic led to lower consumer demand, leading to a sharp correction in shipments in the second half of 2022 and the first half of 2023,” said Bharath Shenoy, senior research analyst at IDC in India.
The overall market rebounded in the second half of 2023 (2H23) with 12.9 percent growth (year-on-year) after a weak first half. The last quarter of 2023 (4Q23) grew by 11.4 percent (compared to the same time of the year), while both desktops and laptops grew by 16.8 percent (compared to the same time of the year) and 9.9 percent (compared to the same time of the year).
Market leader HP had a market share of 31.5 percent last year, as it topped the list in both the commercial and consumer segments with shares of 33.6 percent and 29.4 percent. respectively, the report says.
Lenovo took second place with a 16.7 percent share, while Dell Technologies was third with a 15.5 percent share, as it saw a sharp decline of 24.5 percent (compared to the same period in 2023).
